For over 25 years I have been working as a psychotherapist/ analyst with people experiencing a wide for range of difficulties and life transitions. I began my career as a psychiatrist (medical doctor) specialising in both child and adolescent psychiatry and psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Concurrently I began and later completed my training as a Jungian Analyst for adults. My passion has always been to go beyond a diagnosis, valuable though that can be, in being able to help people understand the core of their difficulties and to strive towards healing.
This took me in the direction of a variety of psychotherapy methods, and in particular psychoanalytic and Jungian ways of working (refer to section on Jung). As my career progressed, I wanted to add something to the traditional analytic methods I had been using and began to seek more embodied approaches. This has allowed a return to earlier career interests in the meeting of mind and body. This then led me to ISTDP (Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy), together with my range of analytic techniques, combining them in a personally curated way for each individual. These have provided a powerful addition to my skill base. Such techniques help in accessing bodily held pain and trauma and invite people not just to talk about their struggles, but to carefully experience them and allow moment-to-moment change.
I believe in the vital nature of continuing professional development and the importance of reflective practice, in which I regularly review my work for myself and with experienced colleagues. I am determined to constantly appraise and improve what I do and to learn from and build on my experience.
